Biography
Born and brought up in London, Rob always had a passion for art since being a young child and was continually drawing. Leaving school at the age of 15 with no qualifications, Rob became an apprentice to a London tattooist. After a short time, his artistic ability was soon recognised by the tattooist, and so he was given the task to renew all their designs and to sketch out all the bespoke work customers were wanting. He also was involved in the actor Tim Roth's first film, by drawing removable tattoos on the actor. During this time Rob was still drawing and painting as a hobby. Rob's career and direction in life turned around after becoming a committed Christian, and he left the tattoo studio after being there 11 years. Rob then moved his art from skin to canvas - starting with a solo exhibition in Richmond, London. Rob has received no formal training and is completely self-taught. Working continually with his passion and refining his skill over many years, his work has become much admired leading to a successful career. After relocating to Herefordshire in 2003, Rob expanded into working with galleries with clients eager to purchase all that Rob can paint.
Rob spent some time in the field of miniaturism which has earned recognition and special awards from London galleries, the Royal Miniature Society, the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists and the Florida Miniature Art Society, with his work being purchased by the Hilliard Society for their permanent collection.
Artist Statement
Rob paints in oil and now prefers to concentrate on painting life size. He is inspired and attracted to light and reflections, with an exquisite attention to tone and detail. His work possesses an appeal which is timeless, with the use of blending traditional old master's techniques with a contemporary setting and feel, with harmony of colour, shadow and composition. This gives his paintings individuality, merging both contemporary and traditional styles.
