Biography

Michael Brazier was born in 1957 and grew up in Gloucestershire.  He completed a foundation course at Heatherley’s School of Fine Arts in Chelsea in 1980 followed by a degree in English & Sociology at Bedford College of Higher Education (now de Montfort University), which led to a career as a commercial officer in the Ministry of Defence. Michael had a small solo exhibition of paintings in the Brewery Arts Centre in Cirencester in 1985, but it wasn’t until 1999, that he started painting regularly, in acrylics and in oils, which led to a number of commissions. Michael calls Ledbury in Herefordshire home.

Artist Statement

Since Micheal's retirement in 2017 he has been painting full-time. His pictures are mostly figurative landscapes and urban scenes from locations in the English midlands, Scotland and Wales. He predominantly works from photographs that he has taken himself. Michael is interested in the way coloured marks and textures can be used as a shorthand for the visual world. Countless influences have included the War Artists, Alfred Munnings, Lionel Edwards, Joan Eardley and the contemporary painters Neil Pinkett, Andrew Gifford, Peter Brown & Max White.
