Biography

As a contemporary jewellery designer-maker Natalie creates dramatic yet wearable bespoke pieces of work to adorn and decorate the body for both special occasions and everyday life.Trained primarily in metalwork but with an aptitude for fabrics and textile design Natalie combines materials such as lace into design collections that explore pattern, repetition and texture. Much of her work involves a strong focus on rich floral aesthetics and bold colourings.Having graduated in June 2010 from the School of Jewellery in Birmingham she became part of a government run incubation and mentoring scheme entitled 'Design Space' where she was introduced to business techniques whilst sharing a workshop with other emerging designers. Following her year at Design Space she has since become a founder member of the Jewellery & Silversmithing collective 'Quarter Studios', also based in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. This access to a bench and to the various technologies that the Jewellery Quarter provides to self-employed creatives was imperitive to the development of her collections.AwardsAward of Excellence: FLUX Exhibition as part of Brilliantly Birmingham, December 20101st Prize: Charles Green & Son CAD Design Competition, March 2010 Shortlisted: Jackson Travel Prize, May 2006Commendation Certificate and Silver Award: Goldsmiths Craftsmanship Awards, March 2006Shortlisted: Royal Society of Arts 'Medal Design', March 20062nd Prize: Domino Manufacturing casting competition, February 2006

Artist Statement

Natalie is inspired by fashion and theatrical costume, old school glamour and burlesque, and she translates her references and research into work that varies in both the processes used to design it and the materials chosen to make it. Recently Natalie has been developing one collection that utilises Computer Aided Design and milling techniques, and also working on another that focusses on laser technology. The result is a broad portfolio of work that includes interesting, delicate, but yet strong statement pieces.Natalie Salisbury Jewellery is still in it's relative infancy but now as a founder member of the Quarter Studios collective her aim for 2012 is to take her business to a broader audience. Education  HND Jewellery & Silversmithing:HND Design Crafts:
