Biography
Angela was born and raised in Herefordshire. After working for several different organisations and charities she has decided to return to her first love. Angela completed a foundation course in Hereford in 2006, and is currently studying towards B.A. (Hons) Degree in Fine & Applied Arts at Hereford College of Arts
Artist Statement
I am excited by organic growth and natural forms. My ideas and work are based around my own perception of nature and my surroundings. I am particularly interested in the shapes, forms and colours found in this subject. And it is this subject matter that provides a catalyst for my art. I find that there are strong decorative qualities naturally inherent in organic growth and natural forms, although this is not my main concern. I am interested in the surreal qualities found within these images and how viewing these objects from different aspects can create strange perspectives. I see my work as containing representational imagery of individual ‘organic beings’ or ‘organic portraits’. At present, I am concerned with areas of flat colour and how colour associations affect each other and indeed pictorial space. Balance of line, shape and colour within my paintings is very important to me. I feel it contributes towards an integral and cohesive composition. I enjoy working on large canvases and feel that the colours have impact on such a scale. I am always interested in experimenting with different paints and techniques but feel that for me it is the image that is most important and not necessarily the technical processes. My paintings are important to me and I find them very rewarding. Awards: In March 2007 Angela was awarded the Anne Sandford Award by the Friends of Herefordshire Museums and Art Galleries. This is a bursary made to one artist every year, which was set up in 2001 in memory of the late Anne Sanford who was curator of Hereford Museum for 18 years.
