Artist Profile - Stella Carton-Kelly
Biography
Stella Carton- Kelly is a classically trained artist. She is a figurative painter working mainly in oils and specializing in landscapes, still life and portraiture. Stella studied in Norwich School of Art and later attended the renowned Byam Shaw School of Art in London; gaining a National Diploma in Design. On her marriage in 1953, Stella moved to Hereford and has been a prominent member of the artistic community ever since. A past committee member of the Art & Craft Society, Stella has exhibited annually at Hereford Museum. Many local businesses display her paintings and for a number of years she held an annual show with three fellow artists at the Mayor’s Parlour. In 2001 a major retrospective of Stella’s work’ Pots, Places and People attracted a lot of attention. Stella finds a lot of inspiration in the local Herefordshire landscape as well as from the views from her cottage windows. The Welsh Marches and coastline have also provided the subject matter for some of her best work.
