Biography

Born in the heart of England in 1948 into an artistic family, a professional art career followed on naturally. Peter honed his inherited artistic passion during his five years at Birmingham College of Art and Design. During his early career spanning graphic, advertising, industrial and freelance art services he participated in exhibitions with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1974, 1975 and 1976. From 1981 he lived and pained in South West France, where a growing international clientele added his classic water colours and oil paintings to their collections. At this time he began teaching students in all mediums of art whilst opening his own studio and gallery showroom. Numerous participations in regional French exhibitions and one man shows in Holland followed.During the later 1980s he exhibited in Bordeaux, Toulouse, Sarlet and Angouleme, and , as a member of the La Societe de Beaux Arts in Perigueux, he became a regular exhibitor with them. In the early 1990s he developed a ceramic sculpture studio to flourish alongside his painting activities, and working with L'Office de Tourism de la Dordogne he organised annual ongoing regional art fairs.Peter's main body of work is centered on oil painting, his palette knife technique treating the canvas with rich impressionistic spontaneity. Recent painting and exhibitions in the USA have added to his range of subjects. His evocative contemporary subjects are usually painted "en plein air" and communicate a natural empathy to stimulate the onlooker's imagination beyond the immediate visual pleasure. Now resident in the familiar surroundings of his earlier years, yet another chapter opens...
